Putting the lights up at the Triangle

    Lights up at the Triangle

Yes we put the Christmas lights up at the Triangle. The tree has grown some more so we needed ladders and long poles to get the lights to the top of the tree. We hope they add to the festive spirit in Tilehurst.

Yes, then they were all lit up and don't they look pretty.! Many thanks to Carol for organizing it all.

And now we are well into 2020, so the lights have come down.

    Planting bulbs in the bunds

It rained. Yes it rained. But at least it made the ground a bit softer. Holly and the guides came for the first session and they planted bulbs in the bund in Walnut Way for the morning session. They worked hard and did really well. It didn't rain so much during the afternoon session. But we got down to work and planted bulbs in the bund in Links Drive. This is the first time we have put bulbs in to this bund. The ground is a bit stony but we will see what happens in the spring. We noticed that there are some splendid purple aconites out by the trees. Someone has done a great job.

    Our July Walk

Phil Allen led a walk round the bunds in Walnut Way and down to one at Links Drive. The object of the walk was to see how the plants that we had put into the bund at Walnut way were doing and whether there was hope for seeds to settle. For example quite a few foxgloves that been planted out in the area. We are hopeful that they will come up in greater numbers next year.
We also wanted to take a look at the bund in Links Drive to see if we could enhance that area too.

We are known for our quiz. We like to present a free quiz so that people can have fun without having to spend a lot of money (although often they have to spend a lot of time!) Our sponsors are really good at giving prizes which encourages people to enter the quiz - even though is is sometimes really hard. This year it was hard! Ten years ago we had a quiz about urban trees. This year we repeated the quiz but with a twist. We wanted people to tell us which of the trees in the first quiz were still standing. Some are left - but not all by any means.

    Rescue 2019 weekend

Again we invited people to come and help clear litter from our local woodlands. We concentrated on tidying up McIlroys Park on the Saturday and Blundells Copse on Sunday. A big thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped to make our 2019 Rescue event a great success. We collected 48 bags of rubbish (including a kitchen sink!) and 7 bags of recyclables. Let's hope that McIlroys Park and Blundells Copse stay looking lovely for Spring.

Thanks to all the people who came and helped and to the businesses who donated prizes for the raffle.
