Background

Currently site A14 is allotments, recreation ground, scrub land and a builders yard. The current local plan identifies all the land A14 as open space apart from the builders yard. The planning inspector rejected a previous proposal for residential development on part of the site because the proposal did not make clear the future of the whole site. He wanted to avoid piecemeal development over time.

The landowner of site A14 has not provided a plan for the whole site. There is no apparent rationale in the landowner’s selection of which section of land to develop.

These are the issues we think are important about the proposals for Site A14:

• Should all the land outlined in red on map A14 (apart from the builders yard) remain designated as open space?
• Is there accurate information about the extent of the builders yard?
• Should piecemeal development be prevented?
• Should a comprehensive plan for the whole area be drawn up to determine future use?
• Should Victoria Recreation Ground be retained for use as a playing field?
