Tilehurst Show Saturday 14th June 2008

There were four main themes to the stand we had at the Show
- We had a Quiz - about our local Parks and open spaces. Reading Borough Council donated a green cone for the winner. Warings, our local baker, donated a load of hessian reusable bags which we gave to the first entries of the quiz until they ran out. Reading Borough Council also gave bottle bags (for taking your empties to the bottle bank) - and everyone who entered the quiz received one of those (although the people from West Berks didn't really want one since they benefit from a kerbside collection service).
The quiz seemed to create quite a bit of interest. We had a large map of Tilehurst on which 10 parks or bits of open space were marked, numbered 1 to 10. All people had to do was name the park.
The results were very interesting!
Over 60 people did the quiz. Of these we had 4 correct answers and another 4 nearly correct answers. The quiz included a tiebreaker - and the winner was picked by the Parks department at Reading Borough Council
The winner was Eddy O'Sullivan.
Here he is receiving his prize - a green cone donated by Reading Borough Council. Many congratulations to Eddy for his excellent entry.
- We had a display board with information relating to food waste. There was information about how to cut down the waste, and what to do with any remains - which tied in nicely with the prize for the quiz.
- We had a display board showing the projects that we had worked on during the past year.
- We asked people what they want in Tilehurst.
Tilehurst Rescue 2008
Go to top
Over the last few years the Tilehurst Globe
Group has organised an annual Tilehurst Rescue event. A concentrated effort involving group members, volunteers and local businesses is directed towards cleaning up one or more local eyesores over a single Rescue weekend.
In 2008 the event took place on March 15th and 16th.
Each Rescue weekend is preceded by a poster campaign during which local
businesses are asked to display posters in their windows, and also asked to
sponsor the activities by providing prizes for the volunteers. In addition, the
sponsors contributed their views on local environmental issues.
The weather was unpleasant but we had a good number of people out to help tidy up. We produced a full 2008 report on the event.
Many thanks to all the people who came and helped us tidy Tilehurst! And a big thank you also to the many sponsors of the 2008 event.
If you want to know more about the
projects we are involved in contact us.
